Counsel Table
  • Hello
  • CT
  • FTB
  • TLL

Take your place at counsel table.

Unless you're wearing a robe, there's no place in the courtroom as prestigious as counsel table. It is exclusive to those who are admitted at bar. It is, therefore, a defining place.
It signals everything you feel or think of when you become a lawyer:
  • Accomplishment
  • Power
  • Creativity
  • Determination
  • Advocacy
  • Strength
  • Honor
  • Dignity
  • Decorum
  • Prestige
  • Exclusivity
  • Articulation
  • Respect
  • Intelligence
  • Confidence
  • Passion
  • Persuasion
  • Integrity

The list goes on...

To be an Attorney and Counselor at Law is multi-faceted and multi-dimensional.
Only YOU know why YOU must sit at counsel table.

Perhaps you are passionate about courtroom advocacy? You want to be the best damn trial attorney of any courtroom you walk into.

Perhaps your blood boils in righteous indignation when you see the injustices occurring every day? You want to be a fierce advocate for the marginalized.

Perhaps you are the first person in your family to achieve such academic success? You want to bring completion to this journey and shift your family's heritage forever.

Perhaps you have persevered through overwhelming personal obstacles to come this far, and you want to prove to yourself that nothing.is.impossible.for.you.

Whatever YOUR story is, it is
Powerful.
Meaningful.
Important.

It takes so much hard work to get there and it means so much to achieve such a great accomplishment...

...but what if that last little piece of the puzzle eludes you?

What if after all you've done, sacrificed, and dreamed of, you don't get to count yourself amongst the ranks of those who are honored to sit at counsel table?

What if all your plans and visions for your future are foiled at the finish line?

That is simply not an option.

After all your hard work, determination, and investment into your future,
you have one last test to take. And that's all it is - a test.

You already know how to think like a lawyer.

You've already learned the law.

You're a successful law school graduate.

But your goal is no longer to get your J.D.

➡ Your goal is now to sit at counsel table.⬅

You don't need to spend 3 more months re-learning the law you just spent the last 3 years learning.

You need to pass one very specialized test - the bar exam.

Taking your place at counsel table
- passing the bar exam -
is DIFFERENT than being a good law student.

You are NO LONGER a law student.
Your one and only goal for these next few months is to pass a single exam.

What you need is a guide to deconstruct the bar exam into its component parts, and to methodically teach you how to perform each of those parts well, so that on the real bar exam, you are practiced and prepared to perform well on the test.

Picture

is a comprehensive online bar exam coaching program
that takes you from J.D. to bar exam ready.

It is the only program of its kind.
It is very intentionally unlike any other bar prep program.
In fact, many of the people who come to me are the people who have been failed by those other programs. You know what? While we're on the topic of repeaters, let's chat about that one for a minute.
Picture
Vivian came to me after having failed the NY Bar Exam four times.

Vivian is a badass. She followed my program and did the work.

After the bar exam I asked her how she felt. She told me "I am feeling ok after the exam, not sure I passed but I definitely felt prepared for the exam in general. I am just hoping to get enough points to pass in any state at this point lol."

Vivian did one better.
She passed in the state she wanted - NY - with "lots of points to spare."

I am so fucking proud of Vivian.

I had Vivian do what I have everyone enrolled in Counsel Table do,
and all the program details can be found below (just keep reading).

But before I get into the technical stuff, it's pretty important I introduce myself to you. Because no matter how great my program is, it won't matter if you and I don't "click."

So since you might not know much of anything about me just yet,
let me introduce myself...
Picture
My name is Jessica.

If I've written this page properly, you ought to be able to feel my energy by the time you're done reading it.

You're probably thinking....energy?... wtf is this chick even talking about!? Let's skip the airy fairy shit - I need to pass THE BAR EXAM!

That is exactly what I'm talking about. YOU passing the bar exam, and ME being completely unlike the other guys while I show you how to do it. I'm not a copycat. I'm not another stuffed shirt. I'm not here because the bar exam space needs one more person full of hot air sucking the life out of the room.

I'm here because I am the breath of fresh air that people so desperately need.
My ideas are fresh. My energy is fresh.

See, when you sign up for my program, you're signing up to be in my energy.
You're not just studying for the bar exam.
You're getting a coach.
You're joining my tribe.
More than just essays and MBEs and rules of law and IRAC and all that
other stuff that goes along with bar prep, you are choosing an EXPERIENCE.

I offer a way of approaching the bar exam,
a way of thinking about the bar exam,
a way of feeling during the bar prep process.

If you don't like what you're reading, feeling, and thinking while you read this sales page,
then DO NOT SIGN UP.
Seriously.

You will be better served if you spend your money where you
feel 100% confident you are well-suited.
And I don't want your money unless you are 100% in.

- If your insides don't feel full of hope and energy -
- If you don't feel empowered and supported by the idea of working with me -
- Then I am not what you're looking for -

I KNOW that there are people out there looking for someone like me.
People who may have not had success with the other guys.
Or people who understand there's a more logical and efficient way to study for this test.
People who are looking for a more holistic, supportive, and balanced bar prep experience. And people who just want to lighten the fuck up and have some fun with me as we do this (and the rest of our lives) in the way that feels good to us.

I am not for everybody.
This program is not for everybody.
I'm here for my people.

So as you continue scrolling and learn about my program, ask yourself:
Is this the program for you?
Are you my people??

Membership Levels
Counsel Table is more than a bar prep program. It's also a coaching program. But I understand that not everyone needs or wants the bar prep component. There are people who self-study, use tutors, or take other prep courses and classes that already have a study plan in place, but who want to get all the benefits of coaching. That's why, for the first time ever, I am offering two levels of membership:
  • Counsel - Everything. Full bar prep. Full coaching.
  • Co-Counsel - All the coaching.

In each section below, I detail an aspect of the program so you can understand what's included and what to expect. At the bottom of each of those sections you will see icons just like these ones, which let you know which membership level includes that part of the program.

What Happens First?
  • Upon enrollment, you will get a confirmation email.
  • Course "pre-work" will be available for you until the start date of December 1, 2019. Depending on membership level, pre-work includes:
    • Information about getting into the private Facebook group,
    • Opting-in for the daily text messages,
    • Going through NCBE compliance,
    • Downloading the calendar,
    • Planning out your study schedule, and
    • Receiving/reading your copy of FCK THE BAR and Strategies & Tactics for the MBE
  • The first course modules will go live on 12/1/19. New modules will be released periodically so you are constantly moving forward but never overwhelmed by looking at everything you still have to do before exam day. Remember: this program is created to not only get you ready to crush the bar exam, but to do it as painlessly as possible!

This is where it all begins.
This is what it's all about.
This is how we do.

Strategies & Tactics for the MBE
Strategies & Tactics for the MBE by Emanuel is the bomb-diggity, so I am going to mail this book to you, too!
I would be a selfish cow if I didn't include this book in my course.
You need it. Everyone who takes the MBE needs it.
You'll thank me.

Hell, if you're reading this right now and have no intention of purchasing my course, do yourself a BIG FUCKING FAVOR and go buy this book for yourself anyway.

(If the fact that I didn't even try to sell you on my own book but I'm pushing this one down your throat doesn't give you a clue, then I don't know what else I can do to convince you how good it is.)

The Multistate Goat
Picture
Although you won't receive a hard copy version of The Multistate Goat in the mail, you will receive every single MBE question that is in the book through this program. Okay, well, that's sorta true... You'll get all the MBEs in The Multistate Goat, plus a few hundred more!

Course Schedule
The nebulous and lingering feeling of the additional "studying" that
you "should be" doing is never-ending in traditional programs.
You never know when you've done enough.
You never know if you're on track.
There's always something else you "should be" doing.
This is TERRIBLE for your mental health.
It has NO PLACE here.

That is why
Counsel Table has been
very intentionally and succinctly organized into study blocks.

Study Blocks

Study blocks are simple to understand,
simple to plug into your real-life schedule, and
have a defined purpose.

Each study block has its own unique assignments so you know:
(1) exactly what needs to be done during that study block, and
(2) that you will be able to accomplish it.

Each study block literally tells you how to spend your time.
Here's an example of past study blocks assigned to my
California Bar Exam (left) and Uniform Bar Exam (right) clients:
Picture
Picture
The program has 80 study blocks. No more, no less.
When you have gone through all 80 study blocks, you have completed
the course and will be ready to sit for the bar exam.
(Although not recommended, past clients have passed the
bar exam even after doing much less than all 80 blocks.)

The 4 Hour Block

Each study block is 4 hours. This amount of time is also very intentional.

First, in order to dig in and make real progress, you need to be able to devote a chunk of time to focusing on your studies. 4 uninterrupted hours is enough time to effectively accomplish a good amount of work, and to feel good about what you did when you end those 4 hours and take stock of your productivity.

Second, 4 hours is a very flexible period of time to work with. Whether you are:
- a part-time studier who is fitting your 4 hour blocks in after work from 6-10pm,
- a traditional studier who is "working and 8-hour day" by
doing two study blocks each day, or
- a bar exam blitzer who is living and breathing the bar exam
by shoving 3 study blocks in every day,
you get to plug all 80 study blocks into your schedule
however works BEST FOR YOU.

Third, you need to be able to step away from your studies when those 4 hours are over so you can rejuvenate. It is my gift to you - and your gift to yourself - that you can close your computer, pat yourself on the back, and know you did a good day's work at the end of your schedule study blocks.
When you're in the study block, you W O R K .
When the study block is over, you S T O P .

Study blocks build your confidence.
They give you not only a sense of defined accomplishment for the work you do in each study block, but you will - at all times - have a solid bearing on where you are in your overall progress to becoming READY to take the bar exam. You will never end a study block wondering if you did "enough" or if you were productive. You will *KNOW* you were productive because you accomplished exactly what you were tasked with accomplishing, and you were able to do it in the amount of time allotted. When you're done - you get to move on to the next thing on your agenda without the bar exam lingering around in your mind or with a sense of un-done work. You also know you are following a vetted program that has led others to bar exam success in these same 80 study blocks of 4 hours each.

Custom Tailored

I will tell you precisely what you will be doing for all 320 hours of the program, but you get to choose where and how you plug those 320 hours into your life over the course of 12 weeks. You will create your own calendar, scheduling all 80 study blocks where they best fit - around work, holidays, events, and any other obligations you have. The course is very logically released/assigned by study block (all study blocks are numbered), so it is incredibly easy to follow along. Within the course, you simply click on the link titled "Block 23" if that's your next block, and the assignments for that Block 23 will be ready and waiting for you! In this way, the course is self-paced and tailored to you.

NCBE Materials
The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) write the bar exam:
the MBE, the MEE, and the MPT.
Their materials are the gold standard for bar prep because - let's face it - what is more reliable than the real thing?
Abso-fucking-lutely nothing. That's what.
I license the NCBE materials so you have THE BEST.

If you're taking the Uniform Bar Exam, exam day will feel so familiar to you because you will have been working with NCBE materials from Study Block 1 through Study Block 80. Every.single.day.
You and the bar exam are going to be 'ole pals.
You're going to read an essay and think, "Oh hey, good to see you again, how's it been going since I last answered you? I see you really haven't changed at all."
Because, guess what, it hasn't.

If your'e taking the California Bar Exam, you're going to be using the NCBE licensed materials for the MBE portion, as well. But the written portions will be coming from authentic past CBX questions so you are also intimately familiar with what the California bar examiners like to test. Just like your UBE friends, those bar graders are after the same things each and every time they administer a bar exam, and you are going to be a pro at anticipating those things and giving it to them just like they want it.

Performance Test Training Video
Nothing is quite like having someone show you. That's what video is for. I don't mean lectures (you will find NONE of those time wasters in this program). I mean "this is how you do a performance test": these are the supplies to use; this is what you do with your papers; this is what you read first; this is how you structure you answer; type your answer in using this strategy; this is how much time you should spend; etc.

You also get a video review of each MBE question in your practice exam - more than 15 hours of me going into a full analysis of each and every MBE fact pattern and each answer option.
Picture
Picture

Full-Length Practice Exam
You HAVE TO be ready for the bar exam on or before bar exam day.
If that doesn't happen, then we've missed the entire point.

But in addition to actually BEING ready for the real bar exam, you need to FEEL ready for the bar exam in order to walk in with that boss energy that says:
"I'm going to crush this mother fucking bar exam. Let's go."

So I'm going to put your through your paces.
You won't like it. I promise.
But I'm not here to make you feel comfy and cozy all the time.
I'm here to create a bar exam killer.

You will take a full-length practice exam, with 100% authentic bar exam questions:
real Essays
real Performance Tests
real MBEs

You are going to have the full bar exam experience long before you sit so you know:
- what to expect
- how you perform
- that you can do it
Picture
Picture

MBE Practice Test Video Review
In addition to taking a full-length practice exam, you will also get a complete video review of all 200 MBE questions from your practice MBE. Each MBE question has its own 5-7 minute video where I go over the question and all answer options to fully explain why each answer option is correct or incorrect, as well as point out aspects from the question itself to show you how specific facts and words are used to trick you into picking the wrong answer. There is over 15 hours worth of video content for this part alone!

Access to Graded Work

If you want additional feedback on your progress, you have the ability to purchase graded work review, where I will grade and provide feedback on your practice essays and performance tests. Just like private coaching, you purchase this option through the calendar and can use it as much or as little as you want.

Daily Motivation
Picture
Zig Ziglar said it best when he said "Motivation doesn't last. Well neither does bathing. That's why we recommend it daily."

The bar exam is the quintessential marathon. It's impossible to feel motivated every day. Let me do that for you. I will text you inspiration every. single. day.

Side note: Zig is amazeballs. If you've never heard a recording of this powerful communicator, you are missing out.

Private Facebook Community
You've already been sequestered from family and friends over the last few years.

Due to that shitty law school curve, what could have been a new group of friends became your biggest obstacle to academic success and professional achievement.

The isolation is over.
The bar exam is not a zero sum game so you and everyone else in Counsel Table can pass the bar exam. In fact, you should get used to calling them by their proper name:
co-counsel.
They're your co-counsel.
And you're their co-counsel.
You all have the same goal.
You are all doing the same work to reach that goal.
You are all having the same experience.
You all GET IT.

You and your co-counsel will have a private Facebook group that is your go-to source for encouragement, commiseration, support, laughter, help... all the things.
Picture

Weekly Group Coaching
Each week, for 12 weeks, you'll have a live group coaching call with me and your co-counsel. I will collect questions that you and your co-counsel email me throughout the week, and discuss them during the coaching call.

If you can't make it during the live coaching call, not to worry! They will all be recorded for you to listen to at your convenience.

Picture
Picture

Guided Journaling
Each week, for 12 weeks, I will lead you through unique and powerful journaling exercises that will inspire, focus and energize you on your bar exam journey. Fresh weekly content will keep your #1 goal - passing the bar exam - top of mind as you connect to your powerful "why." You will be shocked at how transformative it is to journal out your answers to these tailored questions which cut to the quick of what drives you on your bar exam journey. You will find that motivation, passion, excitement, and a much deeper sense of meaning and purpose follow each of these weekly journal prompts. It is one of the most powerful tools of this coaching process.

Meditations
Sometimes, despite best efforts at maintaining balance, overwhelm just hits you.
The bar exam is too much.
The pressure is unbearable.
Adulting is too fucking hard.
And you just can't seem to shake the funk or even get a good night's sleep.

When - not if - that happens, I'm here for you.
I'll talk you through it.
We'll face it. Together.
Just press play.

Frequently Asked Questions
What jurisdiction(s) is this for?
  • The Counsel membership level (full bar prep + coaching) is offered for the California and Uniform Bar Exams.
  • The Co-Counsel membership level (coaching) is offered for every bar exam.

When does the program start?
December 1, 2019.

Are all the materials included in the price? What additional costs are there?
Yes, all the materials you will need to do complete this program are provided to you and nothing else need be purchased (unless you want to purchase private coaching or graded exam review which is completely optional).

Do you guarantee I will pass the bar exam or a money back guarantee?
Are you fucking kidding me? Of course not. How the hell do I know what you're doing while you're supposed to be studying? Or what happens during the bar exam? Listen, let's use some common sense: no person and no program can guarantee that you'll pass the bar exam. I think what you're really wanting to know is: does this system/program "work" in the sense that other people have found success with it? The answer to that question is a resounding YES. I've passed multiple bar exams using/creating this system. I've sold this program to others who followed it and passed. If you purchase this program at the Counsel level, you get to stay in it (keep taking the course) until you pass. Purchasing the Co-Counsel program is good for only one administration.

Do you offer refunds?
You can get a refund (less the cost of the books shipped to you) if requested on or before midnight of December 7, 2019. After that point, no refunds will be issued.

How do I get the course materials? Is this an online course?
  1. You will receive a digital copy of Fck The Bar.
  2. You will be mailed a hard copy of Strategies & Tactics for the MBE.
  3. The online community happens in a private Facebook group.
  4. The weekly coaching will either happen through Facebook Live in the private group or another provider like Skype or Zoom (tbd).
  5. Daily inspiration will be sent to you via text message so long as you opt-in.
  6. The rest of the course materials (the bulk of the course) is all online through an easy to use world-class learning platform.

Amazeballs
Look, I put my own bar card on the line - not once, but twice - using my own strategy. But I'm not the only one who has confidence in my method. Here's what some other people had to say about my work:
Picture
"The method works. I was a mom caring for a small child while my spouse worked full time - and I used her part time study method, and I started late, and I couldn't quite fit all the recommended exercises in - but I still passed and felt very well prepared during the exam."  - Sarah
"This is a very doable method, and it is very comprehensive. I have spoken with a number of people who have spent thousands of dollars for the "big" bar review program, and many of them did not pass the bar despite the money and time they invested. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to pass the bar exam the first time around." - Lynda Hartsell
Picture

"Dear Jessica,

I felt very prepared for both the MBE and the essay portions. I wasn’t hoping for a certain subject like a few people around me, I wasn’t nervous and most of all I wasn’t tired because I had the stamina to sit there essay after essay. I even through I had a headache during the MBE, both days were just like another practice day, just with more people than usual.
There are many things that I liked about your program.

I loved your PT video the way you have it: in real time and unrehearsed. It has the experience that I go through doing a PT. It really helped me to demystify this part of the test. The highlighting really helped to make the law easier to see and understand within a short time, and see what facts I needed to plug in to the right places.

I liked your inspirational quotes and meditation: I think it’s important to keep a positive attitude and it helped to reaffirm that copying is a good method of studying.

I used your meditation from time to time to go to sleep, to wake up inspired, and Monday and Tuesday night during the bar. You have a very calming voice.

I liked that your study program was very broad and deep and active. Copying was important to really see a bar essay elements and time pressure, and the other stages of gradually taking off the training wheels were important to switch up and become more ready for the bar. It helped to cover all the subjects rather than hoping that some subjects weren’t going to be tested. In fact, the first essay was a community property/wills/trusts combo and another was an evidence/civil procedure combo, but I was too busy spotting the issues and writing to notice that there were 3 subjects in one essay. I only appreciated what I had done after lunch.

I liked that my whole practice with the MBE was with official questions. I saw a few look alike questions on the bar that made them easier to answer. I talked to another applicant who used AdaptiBar, which doesn’t have the ability to practice with just OPE questions. You can test with OPE 1 – 4, but when you practice, you can either mix in OPE questions with the fake questions or eliminate the OPE questions altogether, but you can’t just do 20 OPE questions and add them to a running HIT list like your program. I liked that I used paper and pencil just like they do on the bar and that I only had OPE questions.

I learned so much by learning your way of studying for the bar. I learned how much effort it took to study, I learned what goes into a good essay, and I learned how to conquer the PT.

I think that I actually learned to get a feel for whether I was on track or not for the essays. It really showed when I was in stage 4 and compared my answer to the model answer.

But there is something more valuable that I learned that I would not have learned if I had the private tutor: I really learned how to study for the bar, any bar. In this anxious time before knowing whether my good effort was good enough to pass, I am contemplating either studying for the CA bar or whether I should just take the bar in Chicago or New York. I would not have even have thought being able to do any of these options if I had not gone through your program.

Jessica, I can’t begin to thank you enough for your help. You were very supportive, and very helpful. I wish there were more people like you. You are such a wonderful person and attorney.

I have told my friend [xxxx] to sign up with you, and even on the first evening of the bar exam, I referred a student whose last name is [xxxx] to your website. Thank you."

- Anthony Wilburn

This is for me. I want in.

Fck The Bar!

Unavailable
There's a phrase I use. My close friends are very familiar with hearing it pass my lips.
It's a powerful verbal standard that shifts your experiences
in life when your energy is aligned with it.
It goes like this:
I am unavailable for... [insert whatever bullshit thing you refuse to tolerate in your life].

Try it with me:
I am unavailable for relationships that make me feel like shit.
I am unavailable for tolerating prejudice and inequality.
I am unavailable for working in a place where my voice and contribution aren't valued.
I am unavailable for getting paid less than I am worth.
I am unavailable for spending my life doing work that does not light my soul on fire.
I am unavailable for breaking my promises to myself.

Here's some of the things I'm unavailable for:
I am unavailable for offering a program that I am not immensely proud of.
I am unavailable for asking my clients to do less than - or more than - I would do myself if it were my bar card on the line.
I am unavailable for assigning time wasters or any work that is not
directly related to improving my clients' bar exam performance.
I am unavailable for allowing my clients to wallow in negativity and self-doubt.
I am unavailable for allowing my clients to doubt that
they are innately capable of passing this test.
I am unavailable for adding unnecessary "fluff" into
my program so I look like the other guys.
I am unavailable for providing unreliable or inauthentic materials to my clients.
I am unavailable for acting, sounding, or being anything other than authentically
me in order to convince anyone I know what the fuck I'm doing.
I am unavailable for discounting my program or
convincing anyone why it is worth every penny.
I am unavailable for ignoring the mental, emotional and lifestyle aspects of bar prep,
and how they contribute to my clients' success.
I am unavailable for letting my clients place their success in mine or anyone
else's hands by shirking away from the responsibility of bar prep.
I am unavailable for fostering a group of clients and community that is anything
other than 100% supportive, encouraging, helpful and empowering.
I am unavailable for bringing anything less than my best energy and
my best effort to this program and to my clients.

Here's yours:

I am unavailable for any seat in the courtroom except at counsel table.
